Candied Yams

Candied yams are a holiday must-have in the Barnes household. Although we strive to educate everyone on the difference between sweetpotatoes and yams, we will always call this dish “Candied Yams.” It just has a better ring to it than Candied Sweetpotatoes!

Make this recipe a day ahead to get the fullest and richest flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 7 Farm Pak sweetpotatoes

  • 1 stick of salted butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 3 tablespoons vanilla

  • Allspice to taste

Directions:

  1. Boil sweetpotatoes for 30 min on high or until softened.

  2. Meanwhile in a small pot, combine butter, sugar, vanilla, and allspice and bring to a boil.

  3. Reduce to medium heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. Once sweetpotatoes are softened, drain water, and peel and slice the sweetpotatoes into chunks and place into a large casserole dish.

  5. Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the sweetpotatoes.

  6. Bake on 350 for 20 minutes. Turn off oven and let rest in warm oven until ready to serve.

  7. We recommend giving the candied yams a taste and if needed, make a reduction by warming more butter, sugar, and vanilla to taste on medium on the stove.
